Scipio and Longus mass troops in Cisalpina and, in combination with hostile tribes, deter Hannibal from ever crossing the Alps. Instead, Hasdrubal sails first into Sardinia and then into Sicily ending Marcellus’ siege of Syracusae. Large Roman armies fight with Hannibal near Massilia but are beaten back most notably including a close-run battle with Africanus.
